If you are in the mood for some powerhouse female vocals, look no further than Betty Who. The Australian singer recently released a brand new EP titled Slow Dancing this month. Her story is a bit unusual as her rise to fame comes after her song was featured in a .
Who’s first EP, The Movement, was self-released and contained four songs – nothing particularly fancy. After having her song featured in the Home Depot marriage proposal, where fans choreographed a routine to Somebody Loves You, however, Who gained serious attention for her music.
Betty Who is the latest female vocalist to rise to stardom. She has been compared to the likes of Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, and Robyn. According to MTV, the 22-year-old pop singer began her musical career at the young age of four – playing the cello and writing songs in her early teens.
In an interview with The Guardian, Who states, “This sounds very Disney, but I would rather have a song or image that reflects who I am…I’m lucky to have the luxury to say that, because I had the first EP that I did really honestly and had it do very well. Otherwise, I could be saying that and I could be talking out my ass.”
Her unique rise to popularity has been widely praised as Who seems so down-to-earth and true to herself as well as her music. She didn’t have to filter all her content through a hierarchical system to change and manipulate her music. Fans love her music the way she wanted it to be presented to them.
