Chill out, Lemon Readers: July is National Ice Cream Month! In honor of this special appreciation month, I’ve gotten the scoop on the best creameries in the Atlanta area.
Ice cream is the perfect way to cool down on a hot summer’s day. The weather in Atlanta has been scorching hot, and everyone is looking for ways to cool down without breaking the bank. Here’s my guide to the best places to enjoy ice cream in the city.
1. Morelli’s
Morelli’s has been voted the best ice cream shop in Atlanta for several years in a row by Bon Appetit and Atlanta Magazine. They are known for their creative flavors, such as Sea Salted Caramel, Ginger Lavender, and Sweet Corn. My new favorite is their Caramel Peanut Butter Crunch. Each week, their menu changes, and ice cream lovers will always find something new to cool down this recent heat wave. They do tend run out of their most popular flavors, so I recommend going to one of their three Atlanta locations before the weekend begins.
Tucked away in Atlanta’s trendy neighborhood Virginia Highlands, Paolo’s is the city’s first authentic gelateria. Grab a scoop of their Tiramisu ice cream before shopping around the Highlands area. Make sure you bring cash because they don’t take credit or debit cards.
CamiCakes opened a few years ago in Atlanta as a cupcake bakery. Earlier this year, they expanded their business, opening an ice cream shop. The ice cream shop makes freshly churned ice cream daily, and you can savor your chosen flavor in one of their homemade cake ice cream bowls. They serve unique flavors like Buttered Pecan, Mocha Frappuccino, and Apple Pie. They also offer homemade Red Velvet ice cream sandwiches and ice cream floats. CamiCakes never disappoints!
4. High Road Craft Ice Cream & Sorbet
Make a trip to your local Whole Foods, stop by the freezer section, and pick up a pint of High Craft Road Ice Cream. This luxury ice cream company uses local and organic ingredients. They certainly take ice cream to the next with flavors like Roasted Coffee Caramel, Mango Chile Lime, Fig & Balsamic, Bourbon Burnt Sugar, and Meyer Lemon Tart. If you’re searching out a summer field trip for your taste buds, give one of these flavors a try!
5. King of Pops
If you see a little ice cream cart parked around town, it’s probably the King of Pops – Atlanta’s original handcrafted popsicle truck. Their thirst-quenching popsicles come in several exotic flavors. Try Chocolate Sea Salt, Arnold Palmer, Georgia Peach, or Strawberry Rosemary.
6. Atomic Ice Cream Sandwich
The word on the street is that Atomic Ice Cream Sandwiches are the new must-have frozen treats in the city. These homemade ice cream sandwiches are filled with High Road Craft Ice Cream, in addition to new flavors like Dutch Chocolate Cookie and Expresso Gelato.
What’s your favorite cool-down spot in Atlanta? How else are you celebrating National Ice Cream Month?

Awesome list, Jewel! I haven’t made it to all of these, so I’ve definitely got to check them off before the end of the summer
