Stop wallowing. Valentine’s Day is actually pretty great.

I’m tired of hearing the phrase “the dreaded Valentine’s Day”.  Sure, the entire concept behind the holiday is a farce in that the actual event we are celebrating has more to do with a massacre to the degree off the “Red Wedding” then it does to chocolate, roses, and risqué Trojan commercials.  But here I am, preparing for a Valentine’s Day without a homeboy by my side, and I still find myself in a Sheryl Crow state of mind – “Love is a good thing!” So here are a few ideas on how to tackle Valentine’s Day head on, rather than the alternative…

Not so great alternative. {via Rebloggy.com}

Love You Like a Love Song

If you’re like me, music is one of the major loves of your life.  In this age of technology, it has never been easier to share music you love, with the loves in your life.  Use Spotify or 8tracks to compose your very own mixtape and share it with your friends and family.  Or, you can be lazy and steal mine! I promise I won’t tell…

Side note: if the reason you’re feeling down this Valentine’s Day is because you’re suffering from unrequited love, check out this playlist here.

There are a lot of great workouts out there but sometimes they can be a little intimidating to go alone. Do your body good and instead of staying in this Valentine’s Day, grab a friend and break a sweat.  Treat yourself to a Soul Cycle class or Pure Barre class.  Who knows?  You may fall in love with a new workout routine (or a cute instructor…no judgements here). Added bonus: once you’re done, you won’t feel so bad if you and your girlfriends go home and binge on drug store chocolate.

Grow a Pair

…And ask someone out!  Valentine’s Day is on a Friday this year which can either be terrifying, or, you can use it to your advantage!  I personally have plans to take on the town with some of my 1st string wing-women to take Single’s Awareness Day head-on.  You may be asking yourself questions like “how do you plan to do that?” or “isn’t that wildly depressing?”  The answer: anyone who is out on Valentine’s Day is (most likely) not attached and therefore fair game (and only it really has the potential to be mildly depressing)!  Take this Valentine’s Day to be bold, be daring, and make the first move! Or just hang in the corner with your gfs and look fierce.  Your choice.

Since there are no forecasts of Valentine’s Day being cancelled this year on account of inclement weather or me not having a boyfriend, let’s focus on all the silver that lines this “dark cloud” dubbed Valentine’s Day.  Chances are you have a lot of love in your life to celebrate.
