Nothing pumps me up like a good playlist – and as all of my friends know, classic rock is always at the top of every list. Some of my favorite songs are not only awesome for jamming in the car but are also full of great career lessons.

Summer road trips are a great chance to sing at the top of your lungs with the windows down and to maybe learn a thing or two along the way. Whether you’re stuck in a rut or planning out your next move, this soundtrack will get you ready to take on the next challenge that your job throws at you!

“Don’t Look Back,” Boston

First things first – make an effort to focus on the future. Put your mistakes and disappointments in the past. It is important to learn from your experiences, but don’t let them scare you away from taking the next step forward.

“Dream On,” Aerosmith

Dream big! Figure out what your dreams are (no matter how crazy!) and map out a plan to achieve them.

“Blue Collar Man,” Styx

Hard work is the key to success in any field.  Volunteering to take on extra projects, offering to help others or staying late to get the job done are all great ways to get noticed and to build your reputation as dependable, reliable and hardworking.

“Go Your Own Way,” Fleetwood Mac

Be sure that you are staying true to yourself and doing something you enjoy. It’s important to gather advice and input from trusted advisors, but listen to your heart and intuition. You are the only one who can decide which path is best for you!

“The Waiting is the Hardest Part,” Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Despite your hard work, planning and best efforts, change takes time. Don’t get discouraged – trust that opportunities will open up for you when the timing is right.

“You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” The Rolling Stones

There will be disappointments and setbacks along the way. But as the song goes, “If you try sometimes, well you just might find, you get what you need.” Believe in yourself and know that great things are ahead!
