Early morning on January 23, 2014, pop star Justin Bieber was arrested for driving under the influence and drag racing in Miami. According to People.com, Bieber told Miami Beach Police Department that he had smoked marijuana and had taken prescription drugs. Miami Beach PD discovered that Bieber was driving under the influence (and Bieber isn’t 21 years old yet).
Bieber was arrested and charged with a DUI after he refused to cooperate with officers, and was also charged with not having a valid driver’s license (CBS Local Miami). Bieber also appeared briefly in bond court and was faced with a $2,500 jail bond, which according to CBS Local Miami is the normal bond amount for a DUI charge. Fans quickly took to Twitter, pleading to #FreeJustinBieber (those who aren’t in his camp campaigned to #DeportBieber, the Canadian). However, Bieber was released at 2 p.m. on January 23, the very same day.
Recently, Bieber landed in trouble with the law previously in recent weeks when he “allegedly” threw eggs at a neighbor’s home in LA (People.com). Bieber has been in the news lately with and the alleged texts (which his rep claims are completely false) he sent between him and former girlfriend actress and singer Selena Gomez.
Since the arrest, State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle had stated that the court is awaiting drug test results and the state will decide in three weeks if more charges will be made.
