Winter in Wisconsin is not simply a season, but more like a lifestyle. Temperatures begin to drop from summer highs in the 90s to -25° basically overnight. While the rest of the country shudders at temperatures below 0° – Wisconsinites embrace the freezing cold and make the most of this never-ending season. So, should you happen to make the blustery trek to Milwaukee this winter, here are a few things to put on your to-do list to live like a local.

1. Ice Skating at Red Arrow Park. This downtown park hosts one of the best Christmas tree lightings in the city and was voted as the “Best Place of Skating” multiple years in a row. Bonus – there is a Starbucks right on site (try some of these hidden goodies while you’re there!)

2. Visit the Pabst Mansion. This historical landmark offers a variety of holiday events including: Grand Avenue Christmas, Twilight Tours, and Dickens Dinners. Plus it’s always decorated to make you feel like you’re inside a holiday greeting card!

3. Take the Lakefront Brewery Tour! It’s Wisconsin. We make beer, we drink beer, we love beer. Plus they offer some tasty winter delights like the Holiday Spice Lager. #yum

4. Tailgate at Lambeau Field. Ok, so this technically isn’t in Milwaukee, but Wisconsin is home to the Packers and our know how to do right even when it’s ice cold out! This truly is an experience of a lifetime.

5. Get “Freezin’ for a Reason with the Special Olympics Wisconsin Polar Plunge®. If you thought sitting outside for a football game in this weather was crazy – try jumping into Lake Michigan! At least it’s for a good cause, right?

Yes, it’s cold here in Milwaukee, but if we let that stop us we’d miss out on all the fun and festive activities that this chilly city has to offer! Get out and enjoy it!
