Maybe the rest of you lovely lemonettes don’t spend quite the same amount of time that I do skulking around Williams-Sonoma looking at the latest gadget, or lusting after attachments for your Kitchen Aid mixer (not sure I’d ever use the pasta maker if I had one, but it’s nice to dream), so quite possibly you haven’t noticed that the store always (and I mean always) smells AMAZING! Seriously, the next time you’re at the mall walk into the store and take a few deep breaths.
So – what’s their secret? Potpourri. But before you get all “ew, gross” on me take note: this is not your grandmother’s potpourri. This stuff doesn’t look like strangely colored (and scented) shavings meant to cover the bottom of you kid sister’s hamster cage. No, this potpourri (hence forth to be known as: simmering scents) is ultra chic, easy to whip up, easy to change up, and most importantly … does not invoke memories of your Great Aunt Erma.
While the traditional Williams-Sonoma simmering scent contains lemons, rosemary and vanilla, this time of year demands something a little more festive. With a pot of this magic stuff simmering on your back burner, your house will smell like what I imagine the old Victorian homes out of a Dickens novel smelled like…only without the chamber pots.
