First up on my list of NYC Eats: Miss Korea BBQ in Korea Town.
I’m all about Korean pride, and I am lucky enough to have friends who are obsessed with Asians (that might be the only reason we are friends), so I obviously felt a trip to the heart of Korea Town in the Big Apple was in order. Korean BBQ is the most popular among non-Koreans so a friend recommended Miss Korea BBQ to me. As soon as I got over the name of the place, we were on our way over.
You know you’re in Korean Town when you find yourself surrounded by Asians. Going to K-Town is like momentarily stepping out of Manhattan. It’s a street in Midtown lined with Korean markets, restaurants, and Karaoke bars (Koreans are notorious for getting drunk and feeling the need to sing…just in case you didn’t know.)
We ordered Marinated Kalbi (beef), Pork Belly, Dolsot Bibimbap, AKA rice, vegetables, roots, egg, and beef mixed and cooked in a clay pot, and Spicy Rice Cakes. And as in all Korean restaurants, we were presented with an assortment of small plates that come with every meal.
They grilled the beef and pork right in front of us, with the oil sizzling next to browning onions. While Korean food is not quite as widespread as Japanese of Thai food in the United States, Miss Korea BBQ does it right, while staying authentic to traditional Korean cuisine.

Having grown up eating Korean food, I always love venturing into Koreatown, but have put off BBQ places for fear that they may not be as authentic. So glad to hear about Miss Korea!
