Got Almonds?

photo.PNG-2Lately I have been into making homemade food. Why? Well you never really know what is going into your food unless you are making it yourself. And that even goes with milk! It’s been a few years that I have stopped drinking milk; instead I go for almond milk. Almond milk is raw, organic, non-GMO, dairy-soy-gluten free and you can use almond milk as a substitute for any recipe that calls for milk. Not only do I find almond milk tastier, but also it is healthier for you.

It never dawned on me until years ago when my biology teacher in high school told me that milk isn’t as good for you as we think, he said: “We are the only mammals to continue to drink milk once we get older.” And since that day, I have stopped. Homemade almond milk comes with great health benefits as a protein-packed energy booster, digestive aid and antioxidant powerhouse. It strengthens bones and muscles, promotes healthier skin and so much more!

I came across Almond Milk LA , and I instantly became drawn to this company. You can order an almond milk DIY kit and it comes to you with a mason jar, almonds, pink Himalayan sea salt and a milking bag! Not to skimp on style, it also includes a cute little handwritten note and an instruction card! How perfect is that to put into your recipe book? With four easy steps you can make the tastiest, creamiest almond milk! All you need to do is: soak, blend, squeeze and enjoy!

1.     Soak the organic almonds in water for 12 hours, then drain and rinse.

2.     Blend 2 cups of almonds with 4 cups of filtered water and a pinch of the sea salt.

3.     Pour the mixture into the milk bag and squeeze into a bowl.

4.     Enjoy!

I added vanilla bean during step 2 to make Vanilla Almond Milk! But you can add dates to make it sweeter, or cacao to make it into Chocolate Almond Milk! How perfect is that?

Almond Milk LA makes a wonderful and easy-to-use kit. Not only does it taste delicious, but it comes with flavor variations and a helpful soaking chart with other nuts, seeds, grains and beans! So what are you waiting for, order your own Almond Milk kit and start milking today.

Almond milk has almost no protein in it despite the fact that almonds are packed with it! Cow’s milk is a better source of protein if that’s what you’re looking for.
