Apple Cider Hot Toddy

Every fall and winter when the weather turns cold and damp I imbibe in a favorite treat: the apple cider hot toddy. Warm and cozy, it’s the perfect treat for those nights where the drizzle hangs in the air and all you want to do is sit next to the fire and read a book.

I used to make my hot toddy with those little packets of apple cider mix and spiced rum … and then one day I thought to myself, “Self – why am I using powdered mixes packed with sugar when I can get my hands on REAL apple cider?” The only thing I could come up with is: habit. Some habits are totally worth breaking. #canIgetanamen

The best part of this old-timey cocktail? It tastes like liquid apple pie. Can it get any better?

Any anyways, who doesn’t love drinking out of a Mason Jar?

Apple Cider Hot Toddy

Ingredients:

1 cup Apple Cider

1 ounce (1 shot glass full) Spiced Rum

Cinnamon Stick

Nutmeg

Allspice

Directions:

  1. Warm the cider in a small sauce pan on the stove, until steaming (don’t let it boil).  Optional: you can add a cinnamon stick, nutmeg or allspice to this cider (I use the cinnamon stick and a dash of nutmeg).
  2. Pour cider through a mesh strainer into your favorite drinking receptacle (Mason Jar all the way!). Add spiced rum to cider.
  3. Garnish with apple slice (or cinnamon stick) and enjoy!
