A Cocktail to Close 2013

It’s hard to believe that 2013 is nearly coming to an end. The months simply flew by! It seems that we are always one step ahead of ourselves, keeping one foot in the present, but the other in the next upcoming holiday or season. So, in staying with tradition I realize that while Christmas has still come to pass, it is never too early to start planning for your New Year’s Eve bash!

If you’re like me, and the bar scene has lost its appeal, you may be planning to host or attend a get together with your nearest and dearest friends. Naturally, at a New Year’s Eve party, one would expect the traditional champagne to be popping at midnight, but here is another option I stumbled upon. Jazz up the evening with a unique and delicious cocktail (and maybe a few crafts too!)

Thus I introduce to you the Apple Pie Sangria courtesy of The Cookie Rookie. Enough said. See her recipe below!

Ingredients

•2 bottles (standard size) white table wine, riesling, or moscato (you can use table wine because its inexpensive and I like the sweetness with the cider. If you want to make it less sweet, use something like a pinot grigio of sauvignon blanc…or do one bottle of sweet and one bottle of dry for somewhere in between)

•5 cups fresh apple cider

•2 cup club soda

•1 cup caramel vodka

•4 honey crisp apples, chopped

•3 pears, chopped

•2 cinnamon sticks

Instructions

1. Cut the fruit and place in the bottom of your pitcher or jug

2. Combine all of the ingredients except the cinnamon sticks

3. Stir, stir, stir

4. Let sit overnight (or at least a couple hours)

5. About 4 hours before serving, throw in the cinnamon sticks

6. Stir, stir, stir

7. Serve over ice

8. Enjoy!

While this is a great drink to plan for New Year’s Eve, why wait that long? This is a perfect drink to serve up to your friends at any upcoming Holiday get together. Too much of a good thing… is not a problem when it comes to Apple Pie Sangria.
