When In Doubt, Just Belt It

As of late, I feel that I’m finally accumulating a collection of belts that will allow for more styling possibilities. And, good thing, since belts are versatile and are essentially the building blocks of every wardrobe. Lauren Conrad puts it best: “There is generally no better ally for a girl than a great belt, since the waist is invariably always good to highlight.”

If you’re in the same boat as me, then here’s some inspiration on how I’m belting it this season.

1. Cinch it Up- Nothing calls for a wide waist-cinching belt like the spring/summer months. With endless dresses and high-waisted skirts to throw into the rotation, a wide belt just seems like the most logical way to pull it all together. I especially recommend two-tone stretch belts like this one from Ann Taylor as they conform to your natural waist and create the most flattering fit.

2. Pop of Neon- There’s no question that neon can be a daring and often difficult trend to pull off. Regardless of what anyone tells you, too much neon can indeed be a bad thing. A little color goes the distance and that’s why I’d rather accessorize with a neon belt any day. Color-wise, I paired my electric-yellow belt with a vivid sky-blue lace dress. Contrast with complementary hues and you should be fine!

3. Casual Cool- From the beginning of the work week to casual Fridays, a braided leather belt is the epitome of effortless-chic. Personally, I have an underlying affection for outfits that are pulled-together in a non-fussy way and can be styled in mere seconds. Whereas it takes me 10 minutes to achieve this level of perfection, a leather braided belt surely helps. While I’ve had my leather belt for years, the way in which I’ve worn it has surely changed. I most recently styled it with a navy blue maxi skirt, striped tee and printed scarf – the look was so relaxed and I loved it!

4. Simple Skinny- Whether you’re wearing printed shorts or J.Crew 3’’ chinos, a skinny belt is an easy and effective way to lend a pretty and refined appearance to your day. Add a lightweight cardigan or your standby white t-shirt for a preppy, All-American look. Though very simple and subtle, skinny belts shouldn’t be underestimated.

5. Put a Bow on It- Charming, polished and the perfect accoutrement to any ensemble, I’m currently coveting bow belts. In true Kate Spade-esque fashion, I think we can all agree that bows just make everything better. As bows err more on the formal side, expect anything from your typical day dress to an LBD to look all the more stellar.
