Jet-setting is sexy. Sitting on a plane for 6 hours and looking like a hot mess when you hit Arrivals is not. If you want to look as glowing as Miranda Kerr during a day of travel (wishful thinking?), read on for a detailed regimen to stay glam while jet-setting.
Before I reveal some of the best products to travel with, I should mention the first order of business when jet-setting: buy a big bottle of water and drink it all before you reach your gate agent. All of it. And then refill it before you board the plane. Your bladder may hate you, but your skin will thank you later. Because the humidity on airplanes ranges from zero to 10%, and our bodies normally thrive on at least 40% humidity, hydrating is the #1 beauty rule for traveling. This means no travel-size vodkas or a glass of your favorite wine (sorry).
Here’s my regimen to stay glam while jet-setting:
1. Eyes: Hopefully you get to catch up on that coveted beauty sleep while you are flying; if that’s the case, it may help to wear a sleep mask (I love the kind filled with lavender). To keep eye bags at bay, have eye cream handy during the flight. I like Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream, which actually reduces puffiness and dark circles thanks to the coffee and ginseng complex.
2. Skin: Apply a hydrating mask that you don’t need to wipe off to keep your skin glowing. My go-to is Caudalie Moisturizing Cream Mask to combat any redness resulting from dry air. Oil is also a good staple for flights: I like Bobbi Brown EXTRA Face Oil and, if you’re looking to splurge, Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil is the fashion industry go-to.
3. Lips: Any Sara Happ lip product. You’ll never want to use anything else after this!
4. Hair: Oribe Cote d’Azur Hair Refresher is perfect when your hair needs a little refreshing (the name says it all). It smells like heaven. This is a great product for planes because it cuts static and neutralizes odor. (Bonus: it offers UV protection for your hair, which will come in handy when you make it to that hopefully sunny and exotic location).
5. Makeup: I don’t wear makeup when I travel, but if you’re going to, keep cleansing wipes handy to freshen up. I like Ole Henriksen Truth to Go Vitamin C wipes. Of course, some light makeup before landing will add the final touches to look glam. My go-to make up: Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder, YSL Touche Éclat, Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder, and Tarte Lash Primer.
Happy (and glam) travels!
One more thing: Going somewhere tropical? Stay tuned for my post on this summer’s most coveted sunscreens!

This is great advice, Alexandra! I travel for work all the time, and it can be really wearing to try to look good for business after a 5-hr plane ride.
Thanks for this!
