Greetings fellow Lems, if you’re like any normal human being on this planet, sometimes school or work can evoke a sense of mundanity in your life. Though we don’t encourage staging a coup and running off to Switzerland to pursue your passion of mountain yodeling au lieu of work forever, we here at Sweet Lemon Media realize that we all have prismatic souls and sometimes taking a break from crossing your Ts and dotting your Is is good for the chakras. So we’ve rounded up the 5 best procrastination movies, through which watching you’ll still learn a thing or two.
W.E.
A story of two women, separated by more than six decades of time. Abbie Cornish plays a young woman, Wally Winthrop, obsessed with the love story of a 20th century married woman who unwillingly captures the heart of King Edward VIII and leads him to release his throne so that he may pay homage to his undying love for her. Wally struggles to face the reality of a seemingly unfaithful husband and impotence and instead escapes to a world filled with marcel waves, vodka martinis, and red lipstick through the means of a Sotheby’s auction of the Windsor Estate.
Valentino: The Last Emperor
Immerse yourself in a world filled with crystal encrusted gowns, smushy-faced pugs, and enough self-tanner to paint the moon orange. (Orange is the new black, amiright?) This documentary give viewers a behind the scenes peak into the fabulous life of fashion’s own Emperor of Glam, Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani.
Bill Cunningham New York
We dare you to say “New York fashion” without thinking of Bill Cunningham. Some know him as the gentle being that’s constantly taking pictures of people’s shoes on their way to work in The City, but get ready to know him as so much more. Hold Bill’s hand as you cross the street to find out the ins and outs of rapid fire street style photography.
Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s
If you aren’t already aware of the precedence that Bergdorf Goodman holds in the fashion industry and the magnitude of importance that it carries in launching the careers of aspiring designers, then you will be after watching this flick. Not only was I left deigning for a spot in the Bergdorf family tree, but I now spend my afternoons combing the depths of the internet for any contact email address that could get me even a sales representative away from their pious doorsteps. Trust us folks; this is one you’ll want to watch.
Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel
I watched the most bewitching documentary the other night that left my heart skipping a beat for the entirety of 110 minutes – “I believe in the dream. I believe that we only live through the dream and our imagination” – it left me with a thump in my chest that can only be attributed to that of love. For a documentary about fashion, to make you feel romantic is a very special thing. You don’t want to miss this colorful story about the wondrous life of Diana Vreeland.
