Kerry Washington, a 1998 graduate of the George Washington University, returned to her alma mater this past weekend to remind the class of 2013 what the next few years are really all about.
“We, too are the lead characters of our own lives. I am here today to remind each of you that you are the heroes of your story. And I’m not just referring to your heroic victory over Georgetown in the 2010 Snowmageddon snowball fight.” Washington said.
She reminded every single student that our world needs their story and their voice.
While acknowledging most of the recent grads recognized her for the popular ABC drama, “Scandal”, Washington noted her days of struggle over student loans and packed student calendar. She urged the graduates to awake from their “sleepy stage” and awake in the belly of the whale, to reach their full potential, and live a life of greatness.
