Movie trailers are the perfect compilations of film, words, music, and poignant moments.  They glorify the cinematic artistry and, if executed well, can make it hard for us to refuse watching the whole movie. Making a trailer that sends shivers down spines and make audiences tear up is a feat on its own. Here are five movies worth watching – just because of how good their trailers are:

1. Drinking Buddies

It was inevitable that this movie would make the list. Starring Olivia WildeJake Johnson (New Girl), Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect), and Ron Livingston, this relationship driven romantic comedy includes adorable quirkiness, heart wrenching tension, and a whole lot of beer. In the trailer, the complications of Kate (Wilde) and Luke’s (Johnson) relationship are tangible, leaveing you invested in its outcome. Drinking Buddies is currently in theaters and available on iTunes now.

2. Short Term 12

When the trailer of a low-budget film makes you well up, it’s a definite must-see. Starring Brie Larson and John Gallagher Jr., Short Term 12 illustrates the undulations of a children’s group home. The trailer follows the hastened unraveling of an initial idealism. It hints at a beautiful, realistic, uncertain movie. Short Term 12 is playing in select theaters now.

3. Ain’t Them Bodies Saints

It’s not so often anymore that an outlaw film comes to town. Academy Award Nominees Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara portray lovers who are kept apart by fate and law. The lines read in Affleck’s rhythmic twang augment Mara’s hauntingly beautiful countenance. This dark plot comes off as poetic, set to an aesthetically rich landscape. Some critics say its slow-paced, but you owe it to the masterfully created trailer to try it out. Ain’t Them Bodies Saints is out now.

  4. C.O.G.

The hero of short stories comes to film. David Sedaris, famous for his fictional stories and essays, brings an adaptation of 1998’s Naked to the big screen. In this autobiographical coming-of-age, Jonathan Groff (Glee) plays a cheeky and searching student from Yale. This film premiered at Sundance to great reviews. We owe it to David Sedaris (and the masterful writing evident in the trailer) to watch this movie. In theaters and on iTunes September 20.

5. Touchy Feely

Ellen Page is back – and this time, she’s supporting lead actress Rosemary Dewitt. This trailer is pretty straightforward. Text cues provide all of the answers, and included lines leave little to be imagined. Although cryptic can sometimes be more alluring, this upfront plot captivates you with its vivacity and its unique exploration into the human condition.
