On July 17, 2015, Ben Affleck will debut as the new Batman in the Man of Steel sequel, Batman vs. Superman. The announcement of Affleck’s new role has sparked some major backlash because of the recent Batman Trilogy starring English beau Christian Bale. Fans are outraged about the news of the new Batman. According to The Daily News, 30 different petitions were created on Change.org to get the Warner Brothers to remove Ben Affleck from the role. These petitions were created within only the first 12 hours of the announcement. The biggest petition to date is John Roden’s from Ludlow, Kentucky which has over 59,138 supporters (and counting) since created on August 22.

Fans took their frustrations out via Twitter since the release of the announcement of the role and created the hashtag:. Tweets began flooding in on who fans think should be the next Batman. Among the fan’s choices, Jon HammRyan Gosling, and recent Batman Christian Bale were tweeted with the #BetterBatmanThanBenAffleck hashtag. Even the NBC Show Parks and Recreation’s Twitter joined in and created a meme with one of their characters, Ben Wyatt:

Affleck’s acting career has had some low points. Movies  like Giglio (2003) and superhero movie Daredevil (2003) earned less than stellar reviews, and fans are angered by the fact that Batman/ Bruce Wayne is being replaced yet again. However Affleck has starred in and directed some notable movies, most recently The Town (2010) and Argo (2012), which won an Academy Award for Best Picture.

Cosmic Book News has displayed the press release of the new Batman vs. Superman Sequel, which includes a quote from Warner Bros. Executive Greg Silverman: “We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack [Snyder] will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”

It seems like director Zack Snyder and other WB executives are ecstatic for Affleck to join Man of Steel’s star-studded cast, but many fans still remain outraged. Affleck has not been quoted yet on his new role, nor has he engaged with fans on  since August 5.

I cannot understand why some people aren’t excited! I would not have tagged Christian Bale originally-but I would like to have an open mind. Who doesn’t love a good superhero?
