New Websites on the Block: Banishing “What the Heck Am I going to Do Today?” Part II

I recently wrote about Time Out New York, my go-to source for what to do in New York, but I want to introduce a couple of my favorite new kids on the block, Sösh and HowAboutWe for Couples.

 Sosh Homepage

Sösh is part informative, part social; it combs the web for the crème de la crème of New York dining, drinking, and doing, provides insider tips from the Sösh Concierge and other reputable sources like New York Magazine and Time Out New York, and then shares what you, your friends, and other Söshers want to do or have done.

Once you join Sösh, personalize your settings to your favorite neighborhoods and interests.  I’m a downtown girl who lives in Williamsburg, and loves brunch, happy hour, and street food, so my image heavy, Pinterst-esque news feed includes pancakes worth the wait at Clinton St. Baking Company, wine happy hour at Corkbuzz Wine Studio, and Kelvin natural slushies at East River State Park.  (Yes, I like food, but for you non-foodies, other interests include arts & crafts, concerts, and dancing, to name a few.)

 HowAboutWe P&J Picnic

When you find an event, activity, or place you like, bookmark it for later, share it with your friends, or make a reservation.  Refer to your bookmarks on a Tuesday after work when you and a friend want to grab cheap wine (hello, Corkbuzz Wine Studio), or find inspiration from your friends’ bookmarks and go Bathtub Gin (thanks, Pam!).  Half the fun of Sösh is finding new restaurants, bars, and activities, so if you’re looking for something in particular, check out Sosh’s categories including “something active,” “a great date spot,” and “something to learn.”

You now have no excuse to eat, drink, and play at the same place every single week.

But maybe you don’t have time to search for something to eat, drink, or learn.  Maybe you want to simply select from an assortment of dates.  Hello, HowAboutWe for Couples.

(Single ladies, stay with me.)

While the company bills itself as a members only service for surprise, couples, single gals can have just as much fun, if not more with their one-of-a-kind dates (girls night, anyone?!).

So how does it work?  Membership costs $22 per month and includes discounted prices on all their dates, one free date per month, unlimited specials, and free concierge service.  $22?  Yes, but the membership pays for itself with the free date and great discounts on brunch dates, tickets to comedy shows, and mozzarella making classes.  Plus you don’t have don’t have to make reservations; HowAboutWe takes care of that for you.  Easy.

My boyfriend and I usually pick brunch, lunch, or dinner dates (what can I say, the way to my heart is food), but there are plenty of gal pal friendly dates like cupcakes and coco or a photography class.  Why not switch up you and your bestie’s same old dinner and drinks routine, without stress of making plans?  Definitely worth a trial.

Use these websites to explore your city, or when you’re visiting another.  You’re sure to find some hidden gems!  Be sure to follow me if/when you join Sösh, and let me know what dates you and your significant other select.  Happy exploring!
