We’ve all been there.
That moment you never saw coming, blind-sided by someone you thought was “the one.” Fast forward and you’re in your sweatpants, on the couch, watching sad movies through puffy eyes with the only men you can trust: Ben and Jerry. Yes, we’re talking break ups.
Whether you’re the one doing the breaking up or you’re on the receiving end, break ups are no fun.
And while your friends may try to drag you out of your house and away from Bridget Jones’ Diary in an effort to “cheer you up,” we at Sweet Lemon recognize that sometimes it helps to just wallow in your own self-pity for a few days. And we acknowledge that this is always best done with the proper playlist.
Pair these tunes with your blues and let your misery love its company for a few days — just remember not to dwell on it too long. Take a page from the Destiny’s Child playbook and remember: you’re a survivor.

Konstantine // Something Corporate
This is basically THE breakup anthem of the 2000s. It is so full of angst, and sadness, and nostalgia all rolled into one.
The Ice is Getting Thinner // Death Cab for Cutie
“We buried our love in a wintry grave,” wails lead singer Ben Gibbard as just one of the sad lines in this excruciatingly painful song about a lost love. This one is for deep wounds, like being broken up with by Zoe Deschanel. Yeah, now we get why Ben’s so sad.
All Too Well // Taylor Swift
Ahh, one of many from the queen of break ups herself. Maybe we got lost in translation\\maybe I asked for too much but maybe this thing was a masterpiece til you tore it all up\\Running scared I was there I remember it all too well\\You call me up again just to break me like a promise\\so casually cruel in the name of being honest\\I’m a crumpled up piece of paper lying here\\cause I remember it all too well. These lyrics have so much heart poured into them, in what I think is one of Swift’s most raw breakup songs yet.
