Sweet Lemon Fall Music Sampler

Fall Sampler Mixtape

2012 has been a great year for music, and with the crispness of Fall in the air and the sense of renewal it brings, I wanted to share with you some great music in case you’re looking to refresh your tastes as the trees shed the last of their leaves.

The majority of the songs in this playlist were released within the past year. Some are from artists that have been around for some time, such as The Shins and The Killers, and some hail from bands who are just emerging on the music scene, like The Lumineers and Ed Sheeran.

No matter what your taste in music, something in this playlist will likely strike your fancy! A trend I have noticed over the last few years is an emergence of bands who draw influence from the raw, down-home style of Americana music and put their own spin on it. I started the playlist with artists in whom I have noticed that characteristic. Listening to these artists most often makes me want to sit on a front porch in the woods, wearing plaid. I continued down the playlist, slowly adding artists with a bit more of a “pop” feel, and transitioning to “Indie Rock” to finish the playlist. Listen to this playlist in its current order to get the true “flow” or shuffle it if you’re looking for a fun variety!

While I love every single song on this playlist, I have highlighted a few of my favorites below:

Stubborn Love – The Lumineers
The first time I heard The Lumineers I was hooked immediately. Something about them drew me in and it was love from then on out. I had the pleasure of seeing them twice this year, and I am hoping to catch them in concert again soon! Their self-titled debut album was released in April 2012 and their popular “Ho Hey” is currently topping the charts, but for another great standout track from their album check out “Stubborn Love”.

Drunk – Ed Sheeran
I. Cannot. Stop. Listening. If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it 200 more times. This guy is nothing short of addictive. In fact, I had a difficult time deciding which track was the best to put on this playlist, but after debating I decided I couldn’t go wrong with any of them. His debut album “+” was released in the UK last year, but became available in the US in June. If you like cute British accents and a little rap in your pop check this guy out. You won’t be sorry.

Came Out of a Lady – Rubblebucket
I can imagine what you’re probably thinking. And yes, the lyrics are questionable at times, but this Brooklyn-based indie band (formerly titled Rubblebucket Orchestra) is catchy with a capital “C.” The album that this track is from, “Omega La La,” was released in 2011, however, the band just put out an EP, “Oversaturated,” on September 11. If you’re looking for a good song to dance around in your room alone to, this is your song.

I could go on all day about why you should check out (read: LOVE) all of these artists, but I’ll leave it to you to form your own opinions. Also, I feel like I should go ahead and address this: yes, Justin Bieber did make it on the playlist, but I can’t resist the “Biebs” and we all have our guilty pleasures right?
