Weddings are an unbelievable life event for everyone involved. Families come together, old friends reminisce, and love hangs in the air, free for everyone to soak in. But weddings are also a lot of freaking work. And I’m not just talking about for the couple or the wedding party – I’m talking about every (wo)man – the wedding guest. From appropriate attire to lodging accommodations, there is a mixed bag of elements that require proper planning and precise execution to result in an enjoyable wedding attendee experience.
Staring at the invitation for my boyfriend’s college roommate’s (mouthful, huh?) wedding this upcoming weekend, I went into overdrive mode to prepare. And just when I thought I had mapped out my outfit game plan from rehearsal dinner, brunch, to ceremony and successfully coordinated our hotel – I realized I was missing a crucial element – the wedding gift. As a (constantly, hopelessly) broke 20-something, I knew there was no way I could simply log into their Pottery Barn registry and pick out something fabulous. At the same time, I wanted to give them something memorable. Not everyone knows the happy couple intimately enough to come up with an ultra creative and thoughtful wedding present – but that doesn’t mean you still can’t impress.
I knew I wanted something fun, sweet, and memorable - so I came up with “The Toast Box.” I purchased a pretty gift box with lots of a space in it – from Target for just $7. Inside, I placed a bottle of Prosecco (If the couple doesn’t drink, use sparkling grape juice!), decorative drinking straws, and two champagne flutes. I was lucky enough to color coordinate my items for a more cohesive presentation. I purchased a traditional wedding card, but made a point to buy one that was very simple, so the message was the strong point. Inside I wrote a note with special instructions for the newlyweds:
“To the happy couple,
This is your Toast Box. This is for a moment of celebration to share between the two of you.
It could be your first New Years Eve as a married couple, when you sign off on a new home together,
or maybe it will just be a Tuesday. But it will be a moment just for you. Cheers!”
It turned out beautifully. I’m exited to share my gift with the couple and hope their toasting moment is something truly special.
Cheers, y’all!

Joselyn! This is such a creative way to go “off registry”, and I love that it’s meaningful AND affordable. I’m sure the couple will love your gift. Have fun at the wedding!

Ashley – I lucked into that “sweetheart flute set” in the Macy’s homegoods department. I also saw some great sets at TJ Maxx and Marshalls! All for around $10. Hope this helps
