It’s the time of year we celebrate some truly exceptional men – they work long hours, don’t get paid, AND for the first 18 months he’s doing it, the beneficiaries can’t even say ‘thank you’!
So, whether you’re kicking it with your old man or celebrating a new Dad, Fathers Day entertaining should be all about casual fun. My Dad’s favorite meal of the day was lunch – only eclipsed by breakfast, dinner, linner, afternoon snack and brunch…what can I say? The man liked to eat – so I love doing a laid back lunch, great drinks and lots of laughs to perfectly celebrate the only irreplaceable guy on earth – Dad.
First up on your todo list, print up some pics.
I love the idea of taking an old photo and printing up a customizable, pre-made invitation template. Choose an extra goofy one of Dad to set the tone. Evite.com has a totally customizable gallery, and is very affordable.
I’m one of seven kids, my mom is one of 6, my Dad, one of four – we do things big and there are always lots of people around! To make things easier – I love to do place cards even for casual entertaining…and in this case – you don’t even have to write one word. Print out different pictures of each guest with the man of the hour – place the picture featuring the two of them where you want the guest to sit. Makes a great take home favor as well in a cute frame!
Take Flight:
I was walking through Target the other day and nearly had a genuine heart attack when I saw this beer flight tray IN THE $1 BIN! You better believe I snatched up about 12 – and this is the perfect occasion to put them to use. Grab some shot glasses, and serve your guests an easy beer sampler flight.
My two best tips for a smooth flight are either to grab a variety of selections from the same brewery – local is always better, I love DC Brau. Arrange from lightest to darkest and enjoy! Alternatively, grab a selection of 4 similar style beers, whatever is dad’s favorite!
Easy Family Fare:
For large groups, family style is where it’s at. Easy to prepare, easy to share. Big portions where everyone serves themselves is the best way to host a family affair. While I usually prefer to do all the cooking when I entertain – this is a great opportunity to ask your guests to bring one of Dad’s favorite dishes to share. That way, you’re not burdened with all of the hard work, and there’s something for everyone!
Decorate
If you are having a multi generational party – decorate a card and gift table with framed pics of all the Dads in attendance to make it fun and festive for all the attendees. Then, hang your DIY necktie banner above!
Directions:
Take different patterned heavy paper, Paper Source has a great selection, cut out an easy necktie shape. Stencil on lettering in a stand out color – attach to ribbon, twine or burlap strips and you have the easiest banner in history.
Finally – make a playlist of Dad’s favorite tunes and get ready to party.
Don’t forget to have fun while you’re planning as well – I recommend this ditty while you’re making those place cards:
