New York City is obviously known for the delicious food that you can find on each and every corner. From the street kebabs to the banana pudding, you can find something to satisfy your tastebuds anytime, anywhere. I’m one to search Yelp, Eater and the like for the best of the best; however, sometimes it is the simplest of conceptions that catches my eye when searching for a new favorite spot.
La Maison Du Croque Monsieurs in Union Square popped up on my walk to dinner one night and I knew I had to return. I’m always a fan of French food, of course, but simple, cheesy French food? You had me at cheese. A friend and I stopped by one night, and let’s we were pleasantly surprise by this hole in the wall’s cute spot and menu variety.
We stuck to the classics and ordered a Croque Madame Anaïs. For the newbies out there, that’s basically a grilled cheese with an egg, and topped it off with Gruyere. I love how you can choose your cheese at La Maison, definitely allows for a bit of customization for every customer.
Of course we couldn’t stick to just one sandwich, so we splurged for a dessert croque and went with the Mr. Gonzalo – Nutella, banana, and Mascarpone. Is your mouth watering yet? Mine is. Another thing that will make your mouth water? The guy at the counter was actually French. Cue the swoon.
La Maison perfects the art of taking something simple – the croque monsieur – and adapting it for every taste. From breakfast to dessert, you will definitely not be underwhelmed with their selection. It’s safe to say I’ll be heading back to this little Français joint as soon as possible – and you should totally add it to your “Must Eat” list as well.
