Highlights from New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is a big deal. Granted, there’s obviously no experience comparable to actually being there, but if you intend to stay at the forefront of fashion, it’s an absolute must-follow event. With so many shows jam-packed in eight days, it’s hard to keep tabs on it all. (Trust me on this one, I’ve been majorly relying on my Instagram feed and Fashionista.com just to remain somewhat in the loop.) As fashion week comes to a close, I’ve rounded up some moments that were simply too good not to share.

Kate Spade New York: “Places to Go, People to See.”

No surprise, Kate Spade knocked our socks off with a spring collection that was full of whit and charm, with inspiration drawn specifically from “the gardens and streets of Europe.” As Deborah Lloyd puts it, “The best things always happen when you toss the itinerary and wander.” First, it was the gardens of Giverny right outside of Paris, then Capri and finally, Monaco. Also not missing from the spring lineup was a generous dose of lemon love. From the sweetest lemon-printed dresses and skirts to a straw bag embroidered with a familiar phrase (“When Life Gives you Lemons…Make Limoncello”), it was all so good. Guaranteed to hit home with every KSNY girl, be sure to check out the entire collection.

Venue: Best in Show

While the clothes themselves are pretty fabulous, there’s something to be said about the venue too. Whether it was Tommy Hilfiger’s Malibu Beach-inspired set (complete with sand, a boardwalk and music by the Beach Boys) or a scene reminiscent of the The Fast and the Furious courtesy of Opening Ceremony (held at SuperPier 25 on the West Side Highway), designers went out of their way to break the mold with innovative experiences for attendees. Though not as elaborate, Proenza Schouler’s show in an undisclosed location in NYC provided for a scenic view of the city in the backdrop which was perfect as they channeled “chic subtlety.”

Anna Wintour Sightings

Fashion week would not be the same without Anna Wintour sightings. Period. At Victoria Beckham’s Spring 2014 show, an especially touching moment was captured as even she couldn’t resist Harper Beckham’s cuteness. The next time someone refers to Wintour as an ice woman, just show them – she caught the whole thing.

J.Crew x Sophia Webster

Besides the impeccably styled surf-inspired looks, all everyone could talk about at the J.Crew collection were the fabulous shoes. If you haven’t heard, come spring, Sophia Webster is teaming up with J.Crew for a capsule collection consisting of 12 of the quirkiest and unique shoe styles of the season. Eye on Olivia

Love her, hate her, it doesn’t matter. Olivia Palermo reigns supreme in the style department and naturally she didn’t miss a beat at NYFW. Personally, I’m still swooning over what she wore when snapped at the Dolpozo show as well as at Vera Wang. Not to mention how pretty and effortless she looked in BCBG (I’m all for summer neutrals). And, don’t get me started about the oxford blue and turquoise Ferragamo Vara flats that she wore to Rebecca Taylor
