Outfit planning for the fall wedding

I’ve finally made it to that point in my life. The point where some of my very best friends from childhood and college have started to “settle down” and “tie the knot.” I write these things in quotes because, up until recently, they seemed like things only old people would say. Unfortunately, about a week ago, I realized that I perceived everyone over the age of twenty-six to be old. As I’ve recently celebrated my twenty-fourth birthday, my new perception of “old” has been bumped to thirty (for now).

More to the point, just this week, I’ve received two wedding invites. Although I’m not usually the kind of person who stresses out about their wardrobe, I feel like weddings bring out a different side of me. They kind of freak me out. There are so many rules about dress length and color and looking classy and not showing up the bride, that I scare myself into believing that if I don’t choose the right outfit, I’ll ruin the bride and groom’s wedding and be blacklisted from any event that they throw in the future.

Dramatic as that may sound, I’ve decided to set myself up for success and plan my outfits early. I created this  to help guide my way.

While choosing wedding apparel, one personal rule I absolutely have to adhere to is the “stay classy, not trashy” rule. Basically, don’t look like you’ve planned your wardrobe so that you can hit the clubs right after the reception. This is why I love long-sleeved dresses. They’re simple, great for fall, and most importantly, they’re elegant. I’m in love with the mint green one, which, although it has a cutout, screams dainty. However, if the wedding you’re attending is a bit more conservative, the burnt orange and nude patterned dresses are more appropriate. The conservative necklines and full-length sleeves make these two great options.

However, you can still keep it classy with short-sleeve and sleeveless dresses. I’m currently in a bit of a love affair with patterned fabric, so these three dresses caught my eye. I call these my “Taylor Swift” options. Each has its own vintage vibe, and I love that. Although it’s generally a faux pas to wear bright prints to a wedding, you can tone down the pink and blue dresses with nude accessories and shoes. Let the dress speak for itself; sometimes, less is more. The striped dress, however, is neutral enough that it can be dressed up with a fun pair of red heels or statement necklace. It’s all about balance.
What do you think about these dresses? Are they wedding worthy? Let me know in the comments!
