Millennials are moving away from the corporate world, and into entrepreneurship in droves. Why shouldn’t they? The idea of creating your own business has been enticing humans all over the globe for centuries. However, there is no short road to the land of milk and honey. While dreaming is necessary, there is a little elbow grease that needs to be involved as well. If you have taken that path, but feel you’re not getting the results you want, here are some possible reasons you might not be getting exactly where you want, when you want.

You Play the Blame Game

At least 90 percent of budding entrepreneurs can find one reason or another why they didn’t make it. It may be any reason, but they use the phrase “I don’t…because…” more often than they should. If history has taught us any lessons, it is that successes have come from all walks of life. Abraham Lincoln started out as a janitor. People have overcome obstacles that supersede where you live, your looks, your financial status, your race, and more. It shouldn’t be about what you don’t have. You prosperity is solely dependent on you.

You Lack Patience

Patience is a virtue–isn’t it? Aren’t the most worthy goals the ones most difficult to attain? I think of men who were digging for gold and gave up when they were only three short feet away from buried treasure. Life will get in the way of your dreams. It is easy to see the fruits of success, but what many don’t show you is the sacrifices that were made. Sometimes, the first year, or the second year may require more work than you thought. But, if you don’t have patience, you won’t get to see your goals reach their full potential.

You Don’t Enjoy What You Do

Think of why you decided to pursue entrepreneurship. Is it because you want fame and fortune, or do you truly love your field? If it’s the former, I wish you all the best because, you’re going to need it. Your fortunes, fame, and goal attainment are all a reflection of your passion for your work. You can’t have endurance for something you don’t care for. If you don’t like what you’re doing, it is highly probable you won’t succeed.

Your Competition is Working Harder than You Are

If you have come up with a worthy idea, you can be assured someone else has thought of something similar. If not, others will try to emulate you. This means that while you’re sleeping, someone else is up trying to beat you to the punch. Which is why you need to spend your every waking moment wisely. Each opportunity you receive needs to be spent reaching for your goals. You may worry about not being the smartest person in the room, or the best looking, or the richest, etc.We all have those insecurities. What you can do in the face of these insecurities is try to outwork your competitors.

You Expect Luck to Carry You Through

Dale Carnegie once said, “Confidence belongs to the prepared speaker.” This advice is sage for any endeavor. For the most part, you create your own opportunities. Think back to times when you worked hard, and started receiving accolades and offers for your work. That is exactly what you need to do. Your odds of winning the lottery are too low to count on, and spending too much time day dreaming doesn’t give you anything to show others. Opportunities usually come when you don’t expect them. If you’re not prepared, you would then call yourself unlucky. If you want to get your business going, get started now. Small steps lead to big ones.
