Tame That Mane

So a couple weeks ago I shared with you all my trick for curling long hair quickly, and today I am going to try to help make the lives of you long-haired gals even easier. {Because, let’s face it, long hair can be a real pain in the neck.}

sock bun

First up is the sock bun.

When I first heard about the sock bun, I was excited, obviously. I mean an easy, no-muss, no-fuss way to get my long, often unruly hair out of my face?! Too good to be true, right? Well, it’s been a few months since I first tried the sock bun and the verdict is in—I think I like it (Some verdict, huh?)

I first cut up an old sock to make the bun thingy, looked at some pics and how-to’s I found on Pinterest, practiced until my arms were tired, and then I just gave up for a while. Not forever, though, because I am no quitter. I eventually got it. One day, it just worked. I discovered that it seems to work better on second-day hair that’s got some product in it, so it’s a nice go-to when you’re crunched for time.

So, if you have long hair, it’s definitely worth trying the sock bun, even if it takes some practice at first, because once you get the hang of it, it’s quick and looks great.

Next is a hairbrush that is truly awe-inspiring. Sound a little dramatic for a hairbrush? Well, hold your judgment until you try it.

It’s called the Wet Brush and I first got it for my niece. She has beautiful, long, curly hair that is an absolute nightmare to brush at the end of a long day in the pool—I’m talking tears (hers and mine). I was skeptical that this brush would comb through tangled hair as easily as the reviews claimed, but after a particularly upsetting untangling attempt, it was worth a try.

Now, I really have no idea how this brush works, it looks just like any other brush, but it smooths long, thick, tangled hair with little effort and absolutely no pain. It worked so great on my niece’s hair that I got one for myself.

If your hair is long enough, you know that even well conditioned hair is often annoying to brush when wet, and this brush makes it easy as pie. If you don’t need it, get one for anyone you know with a daughter with long hair and you will be their new best friend.

So go get yourself a Wet Brush, brush that long hair, then roll it up in a sock bun! What are you waiting for?
