This is a very big week for She’s the First–a non-profit organization that has touched my heart and gives girls in developing countries the chance to be the first in their families to graduate from high school
How big is this week? A chance at $1,000,000 kind of big.
In the most recent issue of of Sweet Lemon Magazine, I wrote a profile about STF Founder and President Tammy Tibbetts. If you’re unfamiliar with the organization,
STF engages young people in the U.S. to sponsor girls’ educations in the developing world. The benefit is two-fold: As U.S. students organize creative fundraisers, they grow as productive, engaged global citizens; they mentor their peers in leadership and career development; and they imagine innovative solutions to the world’s problems. Girls STF sponsors will go on to break the cycle of poverty in their families, have smaller, healthier families, and improve the quality of life for communities and generations to come.
To date, STF has sponsored nearly 300 girls across 8 countries. STF also supports 40 campus chapters across the U.S., cultivating young leaders at high schools, colleges, and universities.
This week, STF is competing with charities nationwide for $1,000,000 through the American Giving Awards, presented by Chase. Twenty-five past Chase Community Giving grant recipients—five charities in five different categories—have been chosen to participate in the American Giving Awards. STF is in the Educators & Mentors category.
You can help ensure the charity’s success by voting for STF through the American Giving Awards program on Facebook. Voting will run through December 4 at 11:59:59 PM, EST. The charities receiving the most votes in each of the 5 categories will receive grants, valued from $125,000 to $1,000,000, to further their mission. The American Giving Awards will broadcast from Los Angeles on NBC on December 8 at 8pm, EST.
Please be part of changing the lives of girls around the world by giving them the gift of education. All you need to do is click here and vote.
