Of course, the rise of raves has brought with it this all-important question: what the heck do I wear to one of these events!?
The great thing about the answer to this question is it is totally open-ended. Raves are the type of events where anything goes (sartorially-speaking and, frankly, everything-else-speaking). Dressing for one is a great way to express your personal style and creativity in a unabashedly more kooky way than you may have otherwise.
American Apparel takes the cake for selling the most varied assortment of clothes, as well as variety of neon, metallic, glittery colors that one could ask for in terms of rave-wear. These concerts are a great way to go all out in terms of colors and textures, which also can look awesome when being played up by the rave lights. For me, comfortable yet fun sneakers are a must – I love a pair of classic Converse or a color pair of Nike Air Max sneakers. Another surprising must? A belly pouch. I’m not talking about the belly pouches our parents wore while rollerblading in the late 80s. Belly pouches are having a comeback and adding one to your ensemble gives it a cool retro vibe while also providing a hands-free and safe location for the essentials such as cash, card, and phone while dancing.Rave concerts are also a great place to experiment with loud makeup looks you might otherwise shy away from – can you say glitter??? For some, the more body glitter the better. For others, they prefer to focus on the eye and go all out there. Another fun way to do this is adding little stickers, such as small silver stars, at the outer corner of each eye. I’ve seen all sorts of bejeweled makeup looks, red body glitter, neon nail polish, and more. But that’s the fun of it all – a rave is the perfect place to let your freak flag fly and dare to bare in ensembles you might otherwise shy away from!
