Halloween costume parties, tree trimming Christmas parties, Fourt of July cookouts. There are standard holiday fare such as these fabulous seasonal shindigs but how do we celebrate fall? Why, a pumpkin potluck, my dear!
Never a huge fan of pumpkin pie (I know, it’s an abomination.) I was apprehensive to attend a friend’s pumpkin potluck. Was I going to gorge soley on desserts? Sounded like a tummy ache and not the substantial meal I need.
Thank you edible delicacy gods for my pleasant surprise. Greated with pumpkin ravioli, pumpkin lasagna, pumpkin cream cheese balls, pumpkin butter, and more; my first, second, and third plates filled to the brim.
If you’re looking for inspiration for a fall holiday party until the end of November, give this theme a shot. All guests walked out feeling like the holidays, on a chilly October evening, in sweaters, drinking mulled wine and donning cable knit sweaters and scarves.
Trader Joe’s is fully stocked with ready to make mixes such as cranberry pumpkin scones, pumpkin muffin mix, pumpkin cream cheese, and the like. And don’t limit yourself to pumpkin recipes. Some attendees can volunteer taste bud complementary dishes such as bunt cake with bourbon cream cheese frosting, and to break up the monotony of pumpkin- a green vegetable or two.
Bring some brandy and cider to wash down those fall delights and you should have yourself a lovely time!
What are some of your favorite (and untraditional) pumpkin recipes?
