25 Before 25

Saturday was my 24th birthday. I spent the day brunching, being pampered, and sipping cocktails downtown with friends. While recent birthdays have made me feel slightly panicked about getting “older,” I simply feel grateful this year for the family, friends, and opportunities in my life. (Cheesy, I know, but birthdays make me a bit reflective.)
25 Before 25

I recently came across a quote that has been stuck in my mind since: “What will you do today that will make you proud in a year?” I’ve always been the kind of girl who won’t settle for good enough, but I think I’ve become even more driven since I moved to Manhattan a year ago. The quote also made me think of Mackenzie Horan’s list of 101 Things in 1,001 Days. She describes it as a happy medium between a to-do list and a bucket list that helps her keep track of goals she’d like to achieve in the next 2.75 years. Smart, right?

With a year to go until I celebrate 25, I thought it was appropriate that I create a 25 Before 25 list. Similar to Mackenzie’s list, it will keep track of goals I’d like to achieve and experiences I’d like to have before my next birthday. This seems like a perfect first Zesty Digest post. Sharing this list will keep me accountable and give me a chance to share my experiences in future posts. Please share any items you would add. I’m leaving the last spot on my list open to be inspired by one of your goals. In no particular order…

1. Receive a promotion at work
2. Move to a new apartment in downtown Manhattan
3. Create a piece of art to display in my new apartment
4. Run an organized race, such as a 5K
5. Consistently volunteer time to a charity of my choice
6. Read a new book every other week
7. Switch my license from South Carolina to New York
8. Find and make the most of having a career mentor
9. Take a cooking class
10. Stop eating out, start grocery shopping and cooking
11. Become active in NYC’s Sigma Kappa alumnae chapter
12. Contribute a second time to an online magazine
13. Cast a well-educated vote in the 2012 Election
14. Save a portion of money from every paycheck
15. Backup my current laptop and buy a new one
16. See another Broadway show
17. Create and send holiday cards
18, Take an ongoing class, such as Spanish or dance

Love this! I recently made my own 101 in 1001 list and I’m already planning events and activities around it. I hope you enjoy the process! I also have ‘send holiday cards’ (in a timely manner – that’s always my issue) on my list.

My mother was a Sigma Kappa – did you get involved? I am MUCH older than you and I think this is a great idea, it’s like 25 New Year’s Resolutions. Add the fact that you made it public and you almost have to do them all or everyone will fuss at you!

This was over a year ago so I wonder if I will get a reply. Doesn’t matter, I wish you luck.
