Friends and family are always asking me about my yoga practice, wanting to know what type I do, how to do certain poses and simply just questioning why I love the practice so much. My 9 year old sister is constantly asking “Do you just do yoga to stretch and get more flexible? It’s really slow right?” Yoga is definitely a great exercise for becoming more flexible and in tune with you body, simultaneously helping with concentration and present moment focus- especially when you’re doing a balance pose (not concentrating on the present= falling on your face). What a lot of people may not realize is that yoga can be a challenging and empowering workout too!

I always find myself asking about certain practices and wanting to try new ones. There are a lot of different types, and not all are created equal- I prefer the ones that are faster pace, like Vinyasa yoga. I thought I’d do a little homework, for myself and all you lovely readers, to break down some popular types of yoga out there. The fabulous Lululemon has done an amazing job at thoroughly describing each and every practice, along with pictures and videos. Plus, they even have a quick guide for all you busy gals. Check it out here!
