In my inbox Wednesday: “Wine Riot NYC. I went last year and it was amazing. Let’s get tickets ASAP – they sell out fast.”
Immediately I knew two things: 1) Wine – in any capacity – is a good thing. 2) While I am skeptical about signing up for riots (they can be hit or miss on the fun factor), I can get enthusiastic about riots in the name of vino. Especially good vino. And so I bought my ticket.
You guys will probably want to buy your tickets, too.
What is Wine Riot?
Second Glass is an organization with a simple mission I’m sure most of us can get behind: “we want you to drink more wine.” I’m in. They created Wine Riot so that people could learn about and try different kinds of wine in a non-threatening setting. (We’ve all felt the burn of judgement from wine connoisseurs when we admit we’re not quite sure if we’ve ever tried the beaujolais nouveau. Hint: You haven’t tried it yet, as 2013′s doesn’t come out until November. Take that wine-os!) It started in 2008 and continues into its 2013 tour with a passion for grapes and getting people a little toasted. True patriots.
Why Riot?
The “How To” says it all: 250 wines, from all over the world, in 4 hours, and professionals to answer all of your bougiest of wine questions. There’s even an app so you can remember which ones you liked, loved, and never want to touch again – just in case you get too tipsy to remember them yourself. Hey, no judgement. It happens.
When and where?
While the Boston and Chicago dates have already passed (sorry) those of you in New York City, D.C., Boston, and L.A. still have a chance to clink your glasses and partake.
Here’s the breakdown:
- New York City – September 20-21 (Friday and Saturday)
- D.C. – September 27-28 (Friday and Saturday)
- Boston – October 25-26 (Friday and Saturday)
- L.A. – November 9 (Saturday)
In advance, cheers!
