Mmhmm can you smell that? The best time of the year is here.

Thursday kicks off the much awaited New York Fashion Week sponsored by none other than Mercedes Benz. Connoisseurs of fashion are thrilled to see some of the world’s most prominent and talented designers put their spring 2014 visions on display. And it isn’t just the designers who will be under the spotlight: celebrities, bloggers, stylists, socialites, and more anticipate getting the best seats in the house while wearing their favorite fall looks from February’s shows. Members of the paparazzi will definitely be working overtime to snap away shots of the most memorable and click-worthy photos.

New York City kicks off Fashion Week in what is said to be a lineup of some of the world’s most stylish cities including Miami and Berlin. Glamorous after-parties boast reputations for hosting the most fashionable, and even those who do not get to attend still feel the desire to dress up in their absolute best wardrobes in what is known to be street style “circus.”

This week is not only filled with shows from top fashion houses such as Herve Leger, Charlotte Ronson, Zac Posen, and Naem Khan–to name a few–but the opportunity to showcase emerging designers sponsored by fashion and art institutes as well. You’ll also be able to see up-and-coming designers such as Adam Selman unveil their ready-to-wear collection for spring and summer 2014. (Selman, born in Texas, has collaborated with singer Rihanna on many occasions, but most notably for her ‘Rihanna for River Island’ collection).

New York Fashion Week serves as a platform for designers and artists to engage their workmanship with potential buyers, editors, media, and even other designers. Frankly speaking, it’s an opportunity for everyone involved, even the host city itself. Fashion Week generates $865 million in economic activity, including the creation of jobs according to a statement made last year by the officials of Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The economic impact includes more than 230,000 attendees every year.

For those of you dying to get involved in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, one piece of advice: all is possible. Interning at public relations agencies, media agencies, and of course, fashion houses enables you the opportunity to work events. And, it may not be the most prestigious job, but it’s getting you in to showcase your skills, assets, and fervor for the industry.

Another way to get involved is to volunteer directly with the event. Here is a link of opportunities available for hire and opportunities to sign up to be a volunteer. For those of you who absolutely love fashion, even crave it like me, just know that showing diligence and determination in this industry makes a difference. I’ve attended events for prior fashion weeks on behalf of media coverage, and even as an intern for NGO’s like the United Nation’s South South Media. It’s incredible what links you can use to take part in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. So, all is possible even in one of the toughest industries to get involved with.
