Currently Trending: Leather Accents & Quilting

As Fall is now in full swing, it’s high-time to jump on the season’s most coveted trends if you haven’t done so already.  With chillier days ahead, it’s only natural to gravitate toward a darker palette and warmer layers. Coincidentally, leather accenting and quilted detailing don’t fall too far behind.

For many, leather is much too bold and fierce for broad daylight (A leather skirt for a night out is doable, but beyond that…). As cliche as it may sound, a little bit of leather goes a long way.  Fortunately, leather accents, whether it be leather pockets on a dress or a leather collar, are making their rounds and showing up e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e.

1. Leather-Pocket Minidress (Madewell- When a dress has pockets, let’s just say, it’s a happy surprise.  Throw in leather pockets and you’ve just stolen my heart…

2. Combined Faux Leather Coat (Zara- There’s nothing like leather sleeves to add instant edge to your rotation of winter outerwear.  This houndstooth topper from Zara with a faux leather lapel and sleeves is stunning.

3. Tweed Mini Skirt (Rebecca Taylor- Perfect for the holiday season, this tweed mini with a leather waist and leather-trimmed pockets will pair easily with a white blouse.

4. Blouse with Faux Leather Collar (Zara- Trade in the bedazzled collar this season for a minimalist leather one.  Look to Zara for a striped option that is pretty swoon-worthy.

5. Vegan Leather Peplum Top (Anthropologie- Yup, I’m still peppy for the peplum.  I love how this typically feminine silhouette quickly becomes edgy when skirted in leather.

6. Carolyn Leather Sleeve Jacket (Club Monaco-  And here comes coat-with-leather-sleeves-number-two.  If you haven’t guessed it by now, I have a thing for leather sleeves.  Club Monaco’s camel-colored “Carolyn Jacket” is no exception.  Complete with a pea coat silhouette, it’s too dreamy not to share.

Moving on to the next trend that I’m highlighting, here are some of the most sought after quilted clothing and accessories to start adding to your closet today.  Ready, set, go!

1. Sessun B Boys Quilted Pullover (Madewell- Say hello to the softest, quilted pullover you’ll ever meet.  Courtesy of the French label, Sessun, its effortless appeal is undeniable and it will quickly become your best friend on those days when you want to dress down in jeans and boots.

2. Metro Grand Quilted Watch (Kate Spade- So classic, so sophisticated, and so timeless — this quilted watch by Kate Spade is the crème de la crème.  Whether worn with a white t-shirt and cashmere cardigan or a sequined dress, consider this timepiece a must-have.

3. Quilted Leather Glove (Club Monaco- Keep your hands warm in this ever-stylish pair of Italian quilted leather gloves.

4. Laddy Quilted Leather Ballet Flats (Ann Taylor- Boy, did Ann Taylor get it right with these quilted cap-toe leather ballet flats! They’re very Chanel-esque, and fall just under the $90 mark.  Perfect.

5. Faux Leather Biker Jacket (Zara- Where a leather biker jacket is strictly edgy, one that’s quilted takes on a softer, more feminine vibe.

6. Black Quilted A-line Skirt (Topshop- I proclaim the quilted leather skirt a winter wardrobe staple.  When the styling possibilities are endless (tuck in a blouse, throw on a cozy knit sweater or go back to basics with a simple striped tee), you know it’s a winner.

As you can see, leather accents and quilting are indeed having a major moment.  And the best part is that you don’t have to go out of your way to own any of these looks — they’re that practical!
