Summer Skin Care Prep

ananya-juneja-summer-skin-prep-sweetlemonmagIt’s just a few months from bikini season and maybe even time for a little mid-winter break. I like to start prepping my skin in advance to look its best again so I’m not stressed over it and I can just worry about what bathing suit I’ll be wearing that day.

Read on for some tips to help you get soft, glowing, smooth skin!

1. Self tanner is your best friend. Wrinkles and skin cancer are not pretty, so opt to avoid the tanning beds this year. While everyone has a preference on their favorite brands, self tanner can make you look like you’ve just come home from vacationing in the Caribbean. Opt for a self tanner that’s only a few shades darker than your regular skin so it blends in if you miss a spot.

2. Exfoliate. I’m surprised by how many of my friends skip this. Exfoliating with a loufa, mesh bath sponge, or granulated scrub will help slough away the dead layer of dry skin and every moisturizer and self tanning product you layer onto your skin will be better absorbed. Exfoliating is also essential if you wax since it prevents ingrown hairs. I like to use a gentle exfoliator (like Ocean Salt from LUSH) daily.

3. Moisturize twice a day. If you’re anything like me, I don’t mind a little bit of scaly-ness on my legs when I know I’m going to be covered up in jeans. But by making sure to moisturize twice a day, your skin will look beautiful at all times.

4. Hair removal. Whether you’ve taken the plunge and gotten a wax, or you prefer to shave, exfoliating and moisturizing are key to making hair removal easy.

5. Don’t forget the face. Of course bronzer helps, but it’s nice to have glowing-from-within skin. Exfoliating and moisturizing are obviously essential here too. If your face needs a little TLC, check out First Aid Beauty’s Rescue line here!
