Your Complete Guide to False Lashes

Flirty falsies are the perfect way to spice up any makeup look. Many of you dolls out there avoid lashes after that one time everything went wrong…but you might want to reconsider.  I totally understand, with all the different shapes and styles, it can be difficult to find the right pair to buy. Fake lashes can look so real if you find the right ones for you! Just let your eye shape be your guide, as we help you find your perfect false lashes.

Round Eyes: To draw more attention to your eye’s circular shape try dramatic and long lashes that fan upwards. To avoid making your eyes appear smaller, stay away from lashes that are too thick.

Almond Eyes: Most styles look gorgeous on almond shapes – lucky you! Try voluminous lashes that fan outwards or just outer corner lashes that will play up the corners of your eyes. Lashes that tend to be longer on the ends will accentuate your already gorgeous eyes.

Hooded Eyes: Frame your eyes with a pair of falsies the feature short and long strands.  Make sure the falsies feature the longest strands of lashes towards the center. You can also play up your eyes by adding false lashes to the lower lashes.  If you place individual lashes on the outer bottom corner of your eyes, you will give the appearance of a wide-eyed look!

Single Crease Eyes: For eyes with little or no crease false lashes are a great option for you! Lashes will create an illusion of a crease. You can experiment with many different styles.

Once you’ve figured out you eye shape there are so many different companies you can choose from! Some of our favorites include MAC, Ardell, Lilly Lashes, and Lash In A Box.

Now comes the fun part, how to apply your falsies. Here is a step by step demonstration on how to apply a strip of fake lashes. You will need the following tools: Lash curler, lash glue (we love DUO Lash Glue), a pair of tweezers, liquid eyeliner, and mascara!

  1. Size the Lashes.  Before you glue your lashes on, you need to hold the lash strips up against your eyelid, to make sure they are not too wide for your eye.  Trim them down on the sides if necessary.
  2. Curl your own lashes with the lash curler.
  3. Apply the lash glue. Gently pick up the lashes with the tweezer and run a thin layer of glue along the lash strip.  Allow the glue to dry for a moment. The lashes will stick better when the glue is a little tacky.
  4. Position the lash strip as close as possible to your natural lashes starting in the center.
  5. Using the tweezers, holding the falsies on the edge, place the rest of lash strip onto your eyelid. Then gently pressing down on the corners. Allow the glue to dry naturally. You do not need to press down for too long.
  6. Apply liquid eyeliner to cover the strip.  Using the liquid liner along your upper lids with help fill any gaps between your real and fake lashes.
  7. Apply a light coat of mascara on to your lashes.  This will help to blend your natural lashes with the false lashes, helping you achieve a more natural look.
Voila! Hope you found this demonstration to be helpful! Enjoy your fabulous falsies!

Shayda- I haven’t tried fake lashes before, but do you have any thoughts on Latisse? Do you think it works? Thanks!

I’ve never tired Latisse personally, but I’ve seen many before and after pictures of the results! It seems like it does work based on that! I have heard that it can darken your eye color, and even though that is the part of the commercial when they say “rare but serious side effects could occur” … I decided to not give it a try. If you want to grow your lashes (if you decide not to get Latisse) you might want to look into natural ways of doing so… I’ve read lots about how olive oil, emu oil, vaseline and castor oil and how they can help lashes to grow (even eyebrows). I’ve personally used olive & castor oil in the past. I do not use them now but I did notice a little bit of a difference when I was apply them to my brows. Hope this helps! Good luck!
