Sweet Lemon Live Music Mix

Let me just go ahead and say something we all know; routines can be boring. It is really easy to fall into the same schedule day after day, weekend after weekend. Work, lunch, work, home, TV, sleep, repeat. Interchange this routine with school, or a sports schedule, and what we may find is that many of us fall into some sort of normal schedule.

This daily grind can become a downer after a while, no matter how many times you go to a movie or out to dinner with the girls. Sometimes, things really just need to be mixed up. My favorite way to keep my weekends exciting is to make a point to see some sort of live music at least once a month. It keeps me refreshed, happy, and gives me an amazing experience to remember.

Live music really is unbeatable. If you’re like me and music is one of your passions, you cannot go wrong here. Whether it’s your favorite band’s sold-out show at a big venue, or a local band at a dive in your hometown, seeing live music is a really fun way to spend an evening (or afternoon!). I always enjoy the dynamic of seeing bands live, because they tend to mix up their music, or bring on special guests. Sometimes it sounds just like it did on the album, but sometimes you may find that you like the artist live better than you do recorded. For this week’s playlist I put together some really great live versions of songs from all decades.

I Shall Be Released Live; 2001 Digital Remaster – The Band
This is already a beautiful song, and to hear it live sends cold chills down my spine. One of my favorite live music experiences was at a Drive-By Truckers Concert with my boyfriend the night Levon Helms died in April 2012. As a tribute to Helms, the opening band, Megafaun, performed this song live and truly did it justice.

Shame – The Avett Brothers
This is by far my favorite Avett Brothers song. I saw them on New Year’s Eve this year, and they were incredible. They do a great job capturing the audience. At one point in the evening they even came out into the crowd, to the stage in the back (right in front of our seats!) to perform several songs. If you ever get the chance to see them live, I highly suggest taking it!

La La Lie – Jack’s Mannequin
Jack’s Mannequin has been my favorite band since high school, and seeing them live is an experience unlike any other. To see those songs that I played on repeat, and which shaped my adolescence, come to life is absolutely amazing. Andrew McMahon, lead singer, puts on a great, energetic show that is so much fun to be a part of. Not to mention he has a beautiful voice, and can own a piano. As an added bonus – he greets fans after every show!

So if you’re bored of your weekend routine of spending too much money at the bar, or you’ve seen every movie in the theater, do a quick google search of upcoming shows in your area and grab tickets! Believe me when I tell you your money will be better spent at a night of amazing live music, than in some local watering hole or seeing Gangster Squad (Ryan Gosling is the only redeeming quality). Don’t forget to take lots of pictures, grab up a t-shirt, and make lots of fun memories!
