Land or Water – Nayad Takes You There

For the first time, the swimsuit meets activewear to create the ultimate hybrid land + water exercise apparel.

As a native Rhode Islander, I love few pastimes more than a long seaside run followed immediately by beach yoga or an ocean swim. Given that cardio attire in no way serves the same function as aqua gear, I either ran in a bikini (not enough support) or took a dip in my running clothes (and didn’t dry off for hours).

Seriously Lemonettes, for any of you that love the beach, outdoor exercise, surfing, triathlons, paddleboarding, kayaking – you name it – Nayad  might just change your world.

Nayad SwimGym is precisely what it sounds like – activewear for both swimming and hitting the gym. Solving the land to water dilemma for fitness aficionados, Nayad offers a variety of athletic swimwear piece ranging from aqua sports bras to fitness tops and skirts to athletic shorts. Supportive enough to exercise in and fast-drying enough to take to the beach or pool, Nayad activewear is hand-made, multipurpose and uses your custom measurements to ensure a perfect fit.

Don’t get me wrong – if you’re looking for that sexy, Victoria’s Secret bikini-clad look, Nayad is not your go-to.

The suits are colorful, functional and designed for a supportive fit to facilitate fitness activities for the active outdoors gal. Not the best choice if you’re looking for padding, push ups or a barely-there-Baywatch look.

I tested out Nayad‘s X-back top and aqua shorts and pretty much fell in love. Granted, this is not a suit I’d wear with a group of friends to a casual beach day, it is perfect for kayaking, beach yoga, running and paddleboarding. I hit the Jersey shore with a friend, tried out the suit and took the paddleboard for a spin. To test the functionality of the suit, I even tried out some of my favorite yoga poses by the water. The fabric is extremely comfortable and flexible and fit me perfectly since I submitted my own measurements.

After a jog and some inversions, I took an ocean dip, tossed on a cover up and walked 10 minutes to a cafe for lunch. The suit was dry by the time we sat down to eat.

Founders Jennie Green and Kate Fox met in St. Thomas in the US Virgin Island, where Nayad is now based out of, while stand-up paddle boarding. Kate noticed Jennie’s “first generation” Nayad suit and the two partnered up. On their web site, Jennie articulates her inspiration for Nayad:

“I searched online for a garment that combined the mobility, comfort and support of a sports bra with the style and quick-drying spandex of a swim suit, and came up empty handed.  At which point it occurred to me: I’m going to have to design the damn thing myself. ” – Jennie Green
