Pressfolios: No Coding Required

Pressfolio

When it comes to creating online portfolios, most of us are in the same boat.  Unless you’re a whiz at HTML coding (if you are, then I’m envious!), starting out from scratch can quickly prove to be intimidating, mind-numbing and, if we’re talking worst-case scenario, a disaster.

What if I told you that there existed a user-friendly website that did all the work for you?  No coding.  No hassle coming up with consistent and visually pleasing layouts and themes.  No stress.  Sounding good so far?  If so, then let me introduce you toPressfolios.  It’s the newest web portfolio on the block and you’re going to love it!

As full and part-time bloggers, serious journalists, freelance writers and aspiring magazine editors, keeping track of our clips is critical.  With Pressfolios, all you need to do is create an account, upload links to your work, and presto, an instant online collection of all your favorites.  (I would run through the step-by-step uploading process, but frankly, I didn’t even need instructions!)

Pressfolios was founded by Marc Samson (a freelance media relations professional and consultant) and Dan Kauffman (a programmer).  Their mission was to make an easy way to organize and showcase the work of writers.  Being able to present your best pieces in an orderly manner can only enhance your personal branding efforts.

You can publish as much or as little information on your Pressfolios as you like (including a profile picture, biography, social media feeds, etc.).  Use it to store your articles or take things a step further and post your credentials and skills.  Pressfolios also has a new feature that allows you to upload your resume.

Another very handy feature by Pressfolios is its Pocket/Instapaper-style PDF backups.  Every story you add to your Pressfolios page will immediately be backed up to their server, available for download in PDF format.  No more worries about websites being removed or those dreaded dead-links.  This makes it incredibly easy to access all of your writing samples at any time.  Need to attach some articles to your resume?  Just login, download and save – every article is ready to go!

Once you’ve written dozens (or hundreds) of online articles, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.  With Pressfolios, you’ll have a personalized website that’s simple to update.  No more excuses for not keeping an archive of your best stories!

Because Pressfolios is a relatively new concept, there is a waiting list to join.  It took me a week or so to get a beta invite, but it was definitely worth it.  Whether you’re a recent graduate, still on the hunt for a summer internship or job, or simply want to back up your content, then Pressfolios can work for you.  From one career-savvy Lemon Lady to another, this is one waitlist you will not mind waiting for!
